The Thuringian Forest, which is every bit as enchanted today as it was in the days of the Brothers Grimm, holds many mysteries. In her quest for deserted places, Milla comes across the ruins of a hotel, and in that hotel she finds a school composition dating back to 1977. The wish that little Christine wrote at that time for the year 2000 inspires Milla to look for her. In the process, she gets entangled in a family history that began in the restricted zone of East Germany and has yet to conclude. And as Milla
learns the art of memory from Christine, Christine can finally begin to put
her own past behind her.
