“Old age has evolved, and that’s something we should enjoy. But we must also fight for and demand that older people be treated with respect, dignity, and without infantilizing them.” Mariasun Landa
This book, by multiawarded author and illustrator, reflects on aging from a contemporary and unusal point of view in children’s books and aims to make old age visible in a collective way.
When she wakes up, before her first coffee, she’s an 80-year-old woman who struggles to move and get out of bed. After the first coffee, her age gradually decreases to 60. As she gets dressed, she looks in the mirror and the years seem to slip away. And she goes out into the street feeling like she’s 30 again.
Aging is neither a single event nor a homogeneous stage of life. In today’s society, we live longer than ever before, and this raises new questions: What does it mean to grow old today? When does it begin? How do we experience it, and how do we want to experience it?
