Visionary, queer and wildly entertaining
‘I have seen the future of German science fiction.’ -- Horst Illmer
A post-apocalyptic road movie
Proxi is a virtual reality that enables a second life with new identities.
When a virus attack destroys this reality, it is the end of the world for many: parts of their lives, of themselves, are wiped out forever.
The trans woman Monae, the e-athlete Kawi and Dion, an AI in a biosynth body, want their lost world back. Together they embark on a search for the hidden backup copy of Proxi. A road trip through a landscape changed by the climate crisis and biohacking begins. It soon becomes clear that the three of them are dependent on each other. In order to survive and reach their destination, they have to trust each other – but not everyone is pursuing the same goal …
‘What fascinated me was the writing itself – this precise way of observing, the certainty in the choice of words, the musicality of the sentences. I rarely find anything like that. I felt reminded of William Gibson, only, let’s say, fresher, more modern.’ — Andreas Eschbach on Neon Grey
