Otfried Preußler’s best classic – more relevant than ever
Fourteen-year-old orphan Krabat keeps dreaming a voice is calling him to a watermill in the Koselbruch near the village of Schwarzkollm. He finally sets off for this place feared by the local people. When he gets there, he is taken on as an apprentice. It is not long, however, before he discovers that the mill is really a school in which the miller master teaches twelve boys, including Krabat, in the art of Black Magic. To begin with, Krabat enjoys his work and is fascinated by the power of magic. He gradually makes friends with the journeymen, especially with Tonda, the senior journeyman, who is a kind of older brother figure to him.
