Seven ways to productively deal with tension and crises
Our world is characterized by continual crises that trigger uncertainty and anxiety about the future. Models such as VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity, which create external complexity) and BANI (Brittle, Anxious, Non-linear, and Incomprehensible, which is internal underlying tension) aptly describe this state. Resilience in the sense of ‘bouncing back’ provides stability, but it is no longer sufficient for developing future-readiness. What is needed as well are particular skills that can be cultivated, which involve embracing contradictions, harnessing ambivalence, and turning tension into action.
Professor Niko Kohls outlines here his seven skills for the future: mindfulness, self-care, tolerance of ambiguity, courage, embodiment, empathy, and a sense of purpose.
An intelligent, inspiring guide for anyone who isn’t looking for easy answers, but is willing to make use of tension as a source of action.
