The story takes place in Neithermere, a dark and oppressive city ruled by the strict religious laws of the Creed. People who do not follow its ideals of purity are treated as sinful or monstrous.

Cethluz, a talented young organist, lives under the control of his strict father. His only source of freedom is his childhood friend Vespara, an outcast with deformed hands who creates beautiful marionettes. Together, they put on puppet shows and dream of escaping Neithermere to share their art with the world. Their friendship slowly turns into love.

However, Cethluz’s father discovers their performances and forces Cethluz to choose between his religious duty and Vespara. Cethluz gives in to his father’s demands and abandons Vespara, destroying their dream. Heartbroken, Vespara accepts a magical bargain with the Cat, giving up his humanity in exchange for becoming the greatest puppeteer. He is transformed into the Spider, a creature that gradually loses all his human memories.

Ten years later, Cethluz returns to Neithermere, sick and filled with regret. He discovers that the Spider has trapped the city’s inhabitants inside a magical theater and turned them into puppets. Cethluz realizes that Vespara is still alive inside the monster.

To save him, Cethluz becomes a magical octopus and, with the help of Vinton and the Owl, tries to awaken Vespara’s forgotten memories. By reminding him of their childhood, their music, their friendship, and their love, Cethluz slowly breaks the Spider’s control.

Although Vespara regains his humanity and the city is freed, the demonic Spider remains bound to him. The only way to destroy it completely is for Cethluz and Vespara to sacrifice themselves.

In their final moments, they return to the place where their story began and imagine the life they could have shared. They embrace and share one final kiss as they disappear into the dawn.

Their love becomes a legend about love, forgiveness, sacrifice, and the power of remembering who we truly are.
