Like astronauts connected to the mother ship Earth by only a thin cable, the figures of this novel spend a summer floating through their town: Darko and Zeno, two school friends; Mara, a young girl; Alen, an aspiring writer who drives a taxi; his friend Niko, a policeman; and Alex, the son of affluent parents but also a petty criminal trying to shake his drug habit. They all long for warmth and intimacy, but when they get together they remain entangled in their secrets, their little lies and the bigger ones. It is a summer of encounters with themselves and others, a summer of love and loss, a time of gradual insights.
