Ganador del Mejor Libro Científico Infantil 2026

We are happy to announce that “Auf in die Berge!” by Katja Seifert, published in German by NordSüd, continues to collect awards and distinctions.

This time, it has just been announced that it has won the 2026 Award for Best Science Book in the Children’s category.

Whether about pioneers of alpinism or simply hiking: Katja Seifert brings the world of mountains closer to children aged 6 and up.

Mountains were—and in some ways still are—“mysterious places of the unknown,” home not only to rock and snow but also to countless myths and legends. Linz-based author Katja Seifert dedicates her first nonfiction book to these natural phenomena and guides readers through majestic peaks with charming details and extraordinary illustrations. She introduces several mountain pioneers who were trailblazers for alpinism, with a special focus on courageous women who had to navigate far rougher paths and were long excluded from the male-dominated mountaineering elite. They never had it easy, as “women in the mountains were considered rather unusual, and if they did appear, they were treated poorly—sometimes even insulted as witches.”

Using a limited palette of soft colors, Seifert captures the majesty of the mountains on paper and illustrates the dangers of the high mountains, how provisions and equipment have evolved over time, how mountaineering has become a business today, and what mass tourism is doing to Mount Everest. An exciting journey of discovery for everyone aged 6 and up!
