Campus Verlag, based in Frankfurt am Main, was founded in 1975 by Frank Schwoerer (1925-1997) as a publishing firm specialising in critical sociology. Over the years, its scope extended to the fields of business (particularly management), self-help books on economics, the professions and studies, along with popular essays on politics, economics, society and history.
Management of the publishing company passed to Thomas Carl Schwoerer, the founder’s son, in 1995. Campus Verlag now has a staff of 35, and some 200 titles are published each year, of which half are targeted at specialists and students, and the other half at a broader public.
Campus Verlag’s books are commonly found at the top end of German best-seller lists, and many also meet with success abroad.
