Volker M. Heins, a social scientist and author, taught at the University of Duisburg-Essen as well as in Frankfurt am Main, Montreal, and Jerusalem. He is a co-founder of the Academy in Exile and is involved with, among other things, Bellevue di Monaco, a cultural center for refugees and their allies in Munich. His book “Open Borders for All: A Necessary Utopia” (Hoffmann & Campe 2021) was nominated for the NDR Non-Fiction Prize. His most recent book is “Behind Walls: Closed Borders as a Danger to Open Society” (with Frank Wolff, Suhrkamp 2023). Volker M. Heins lives near Munich.
