Maite studied Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country and the University of Barcelona. After graduating, she continued her studies in illustration at the Escola de la Dona in Barcelona.
She began illustrating in 2008. Since then, she has illustrated books for children, young adults, and adults. She has also applied her illustration skills to other media such as posters, planners, newspapers, letters, apps, murals, album covers, and more.
Over the years, her work has been recognized with several awards, including the 2009 Etxepare Prize for Illustrated Books for the picture book Alex, nire laguna (Alex, My Sister), with text by Mikel Gurrutxaga, a project that also received a special mention in the Lazarillo Prize for Illustrated Books that same year; and the 2014 Euskadi Prize for Literature Illustration for the comic book Habiak / Nidos (Nests). In 2015, she won the Lazarillo Prize for Illustrated Books for the Martín project, with text by Alaine Agirre. More recently, in 2023, she and Mikel Gurrutxaga won the Miguel Calatayud Villa de Aspe Illustrated Book Prize for their work, Lo mucho que tengo (How Much I Have). Her illustrations have also been selected several times (2013, 2017, 2019, and 2023) to participate in the Bratislava Biennial of Illustration and Illustrating Life Beijing (2017 and 2019).
Some of the works she has illustrated have been translated into Korean, Slovenian, Catalan, and Portuguese.
