Yasmin Shakarami, is half-Hungarian and half-Iranian. She was born in Munich in 1991, and moved to Tokyo straight after school. In March 2011, she witnessed the devastating Tohoku earthquake, and experienced first-hand what it’s like when a normally highly organised metropolis is thrown into chaos. Later, Shakarami studied Philosophy and Ethics in Munich, and after graduating with an MA founded a school for German language, literature and philosophy in Vancouver. She then returned to Munich, and won the 2021 Munich Literature Scholarship. Tokyo Rain is her first novel.
