Roya Soraya

Roya Soraya was born in Hanover in 1996. She studied at the Folkwang University of the Arts and have been working as an illustrator and comic book author ever since.

Her focus is on narrative illustrations and graphic novels. She enjoys telling stories from a feminist perspective and emphasize the diversity and humanity of her characters.

With her debut graphic novel, “Faust,” she retold Goethe’s literary classic from a modern and queer-feminist perspective. “Faust” was published by Zwerchfell Verlag in 2022 and was nominated for the ICOM Prize. Shortly afterward, she illustrated her first children’s novel, “Kiezkinder,” which was published by Orlanda Verlag and nominated for the Lovely Books Award. In 2024, she had the opportunity to teach at the Folkwang University of the Arts.

In April 2026, Carlsen Verlag published “ Wind in meinem Kopftuch ”, her autobiographical graphic novel about the journey to her roots in Iran.
