André Breinbauer

André Breinbauer, born in Passau in 1973, studied graphic design at the Nuremberg Academy of Fine Arts. He has been living in Vienna as a freelance illustrator and comic artist since 2005. Breinbauer’s comics have been published in various magazines and anthologies, such as ‘Echo des Wahnsinns’, featuring adaptations of H.P. Lovecraft’s works. He has created pieces for, amongst others, the MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts – and the SLASH Film Festival. To this day, the artist teaches comic-drawing courses at the Zeichenfabrik in Vienna.

Even as a child, the series “Unterwegs mit Odysseus” sparked his fascination with Greek mythology, a fascination that has never left him since. In his graphic novel debut “Medusa und Perseus”, he explores one of his favourite questions: who is actually the hero or heroine here, and who is the monster?
