Aldo Rossi (Milan, 1931–1997) was an architect and designer, a theorist, and a professor of architecture at the universities of Milan, Zurich, and Venice, as well as at several international schools, including Cranbrook, Harvard, and Yale. He designed and built important works in Italy, Europe, Japan, and the United States. Among his most prestigious awards are the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1990, the AIA Honor Award in 1991, the Jefferson Memorial Award in 1992, honorary membership in the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1996, and, a year later, the special Culture Prize for the «Architecture and Design» sector, awarded by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
