Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag or dtv was founded in 1961 by eleven leading German publishers as a joint venture and since then has been among the leading German-language paperback publishers.
Big and major names in classic and contemporary literature – both international and German – appear in the dtv program.
This is complimented in dtv‘s catalogue by its diverse nonfiction program with titles on social, literary, historical and political issues, on art and on culture, but also with practical advice books and reference works like the legendary dtv Atlases.
In 1971, the first tiles in the series dtv junior appeared, immediately establishing themselves on the market and remaining to this day one of the highest quality children’s and young adult collections in Germany, with books for all age groups – from beginning readers to youths and young adults.
dtv represents also the Foreign Rights of childrenbook publisher Klett-Kinderbuch.
