Max Velthuijs was born in The Hague in the Netherlands in 1923. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem and then worked as a graphic artist, caricaturist, designer and picture book artist. His works have been translated into 27 languages. Velthuijs has received numerous important awards, including the Hans Christian Andersen Prize. His best known works include “The Boy and the Fish” and “The Kind-Hearted Monster”. Max Velthuijs died in 2005.
