Rüdiger Safranski, born in 1945, studied philosophy, German, history and art history. He has been a research assistant, publisher and editor, and a freelance author since 1986. His work, which has been translated into many languages, has received the Ludwig Börne Prize (2017) and the German National Prize (2018), among others. His most recent publications are Einzeln sein (2021) and Kafka. Um sein Leben schreiben (2024). Safranski lives in Badenweiler.
