Beate Rygiert was born in Tübingen and grew up in the northern Black Forest. At the age of twelve she wrote in her diary: «Actually, I want to be a writer!» She made this dream come true after studying music and theater studies and Italian literature in Munich and Florence and after several years as an opera dramaturge on various German stages. Her novels have conquered the bestseller lists and have been translated into numerous languages. Today she lives with her husband in the Black Forest, in Andalusia and occasionally in France.
