Last Sunday saw the closure of the 23ª Semana negra de Gijón | 23rd Gijón Crime-Fiction Week.

Over the course of the week 850,000 people visited this international event, among them more than 150 authors from 12 countries. Eighty media organs with 200 journalists attended this traditional encounter between readers and authors of crime fiction and science fiction. The city of Gijón became for a week a great street festival.

The Ute Körner Literary Agent author Elsa Plaza was invited to take part with her historical crime novel El cielo bajo los pies.

As it does each year for the festival, the Tren negro | Black Train inaugurated its special run from Madrid to Gijón, the capital of Asturias, with the mission of transporting all the guest authors, the media and the visiting public. The pleasant six-hour journey marked a fine start to another edition of the festival.

The festival paper A Quemarropa ("At Point-Blank Range") is published each day, offering an additional view of the most significant events experienced during the week in Gijón.

Everybody related with crime fiction - readers, authors, publishers, agents and journalists - should have visited this lively and ebullient festival at least once. And those not yet acquainted with the Semana Negra should reserve some time for it in July 2011.

See you in Gijón!
